"Pete, you’re the best! You have a great eye for color and your work is impeccable. I wish all private contractors had the same high standards. Excellent ratings for first impression, promptness, clean, workmanship and absolutely would use your service again."
- Gail & Chris
1960 or 61, Mrs Hedges, my kindergarten teacher gave us paint brushes and coffee cans (yes coffee came in cans then) filled with water. We got to “paint” the outside of a wooden storage shed in the play ground. Those were my first memories of painting and what fun it was.
Painted a little in middle school (it was called “junior high” in those days), and also some in high school. Attention to detail, not great in those days.
Had a summer painting business with 2 friends in Gunnison, CO after my 2nd year at CU Boulder. Still a lot to learn.
Launched a painting business the next spring having moved to South Bend, IN.
Went to work for Sherwin-Williams in 1978 and began a real education in the world of paint.
Started the Roswell Painting Company in 1983.
Moved to Madison in 1994 and started Madison Paper Works (all paperhanging), then changed the name to Madison Brush Works, Inc once we started growing.
Through the years I’ve had wonderful help from our painters. If we’ve worked for you, chances are they are the ones who worked their hearts out for you and they deserve the credit.
Our present crew of 4 are moving on with their lives, and it’s time for me to do that too. Aaron, Hannah, Missy and Rachel, you will be missed. I wish you God speed.
As of today, July 14, 2020, we will be scaling back our service. I would still love to consult and install your wall paper (smaller jobs, no more 2 story foyers). We will be discontinuing our exterior painting and deck refinishing service, but please feel free to call me if you have questions. I am happy to share with you what I have learned and hopefully save you a few headaches. It’s been a joyful journey for me. I am profoundly grateful to God for his grace and to our customers for the confidence they placed in us.
Love,
Pete Curtis (almost) retired.
